David Marsh : About CLIL

I´m going to talk about a video in which David Marsh tells us about what is CLIL and how does it works. If someone wants to wacht the video it is in the next link :

First of all I would like to explain what I have understood about CLIL.  CLIL is the teaching process in which we teach a subject in a second language.  As we could see on the video David Marsh supports this idea as something bigger than a methodology.  CLIL is not only a way to teach in a class, is a frame in which a School decides to teach some subjects.  Obviously this kind of programs involves methodologies, contents, values, educative programs, human resources, activities… As David Marshal sais in the video CLIL is not for the lonely writer. All of those aspects have to work coordinate for doing a successful educational program.

Secondly I will focus on the benefits of develop a CLIL program in a School. When a School takes up a CLIL program is betting for develop the Cognitive Academic Language Proficiency of their students. When you study in a second Language your cognitive skills must to develop in another way. Students that are involved in CLIL programs normally are able to learn contents of the second language and contents of the subject. It is a hard work for the brain and cognitive skills grow up. The second benefit is probably the second language acquisition. Families usually expect their children get a bilingual second language level and a certain competence in the CLIL subject. Maybe teachers must to explain that the second language acquisition is gonna be a long process. Students in primary levels maybe are going to learn in a A1 or A2 in level fifth grade and B1 for the sixth level.

To sum up CLIL is a wonderful opportunity to learn a second language in addition to learn a subject. People of my generation didn´t have this opportunity. Probably students won´t be bilingual but for sure they are going to have a higher English level than me at the same edge.
